Threats by Phone, Electronic Devices
Black’s Law Dictionary defines a threat as “a menace” and a declaration to injure a person, property or the rights of another. When threats are communicated through a phone, or electronic messages via text, ipad, etc. then it is considered a threat by telephonic communication.
Under 22 O.S. §1172, it is illegal to use a phone to threaten, harass, or intimidate another person. Forms of this could look like:
- Repeated calls to the same number (with or without conversation) with intent to place the recipient in fear
- Multiple texts to the same number intending to abuse, annoy, or place the recipient in fear
- Allowing someone to use your phone to repeatedly make threatening calls to another person
- Making multiple calls or texts to multiple numbers associated with one person in order to harass that one person
- etc.
